language even when I’m not fingering your clit.”
I gasp loudly when she presses against my sensitive nub. “Oh God.”
She buries her face in my neck and rubs my clit a little harder. “I love it when you sing my praises, baby,” she purrs.
“Were you in New York this entire time?”
At my untimely question, she sighs and pulls her hand away.  “You certainly know how to ruin the moment.”
I don’t know where this willpower is coming from, but I desperately need to know where she’s been the past month.
“Yeah,” she begrudgingly confirms when it’s obvious I’m not going to budge, “mostly in the shitty neighborhood where I grew up.”
I trail my fingertips along her defined collarbone, not oblivious to the fact that I’ve just interrupted Round Two.  “And what,” I ask, pausing to press my lips along her breastplate, “where you doing there?”
She closes her eyes and allows my gentle attention.  She strokes her  fingers along the back of my neck, always a sensitive spot, her fingertips playing lazily with the baby-soft hair. “Had to face a couple demons,” she grunts.
I stop to look up at her. “Metaphorical demons, I hope. I’m not ready for the zombie apocalypse.”
She rewards me with a lopsided smile. “When did you learn such a big word?”
“Stop it,” I chastise , lightly swatting her arm. “I read.”
“Don’t think US Weekly counts as reading,” she quips.
“Fine,” I huff . “If you’re gonna be mean, I’ll just ignore you so you think I don’t actually care what you were doing when you left me.”
“I didn’t leave you,” Erin interjects with a serious frown. “I told you I had some things to deal with.”
“Well, you left me behind and didn’t call me once,” I childishly point out.
“And I told you it was gonna be like that,” she growls, her voice revealing her increasing annoyance with me. “Damn it,” she complains, sitting up abruptly in bed.  The bed sheets shift, pooling around her slender waist. “I didn’t come back to get nagged.”
I momentarily angry at her words until my gaze comes to rest on her very naked, very mouth-watering breasts. Her body has the tendency to make me forget what I was angry about.  I reach out and stroke my fingertips along her twitching biceps, sweeping over her breastplate, and over the soft swell of her fleshy breasts. “Don’t get mad,” I murmur.  I coax her to return to reclining on the pillows.
She returns to her previous position, but her body is rigid, telling me she’s far from happy with me.  Her lips are pressed together in a straight line. “I had some serious bullshit to wade through,” she mumbles, “and I didn’t want to drag you down with me in case I couldn’t come back.”
Now it ’s my turn to sit up in bed. “You were thinking of not coming back?!” I exclaim.  The tears at the corners of my eyes are a surprise.
She frowns while glaring at the ceiling. “It would have been too hard,” she tries to explain. “I just…” she pauses, searching for the right words. “I was tired of being so fucking damaged; I needed to get closure on some shit from my past.” She shakes her head sadly. “And…and I wanted for me to be good enough to deserve you.”
“You don’t think I’m damaged, too?” I ask incredulously, twisting at the waist to stare down at my beautiful girl. “Growing up was a nightmare.  My parents only stopped fighting when mom got sick,” I note, ticking down an invisible list.  “My dad abandoned my sister and me after mom died.  I only moved here to get away from everything that reminded me of them.  I’m raising a teenaged sister and I have no clue what I’m doing.  Plus on top of that,” I say, my voice raising an octave, “I think I might be gay.”
She’s quiet, giving me a peculiar smile. “Guess we’ve both got some things to work
