CHAPTER 4
During the next few days that
follow after she had sex with Sebastian, Sierra wonders what to do with her
life now that she has her Master’s degree. She feels the urge to broaden her
horizons and possibly leave England and venture into another country to achieve
the best that she possibly can. Her father has many connections with the bosses
of a lot of the top companies across the globe, but she does not want her father’s
help. She wants to achieve everything on her own without the help of a man. She
wants to be an independent woman, not a trust fund young lady living off her
parents’ wealth like all her friends do, even though she also has a trust fund
from her parents.
She has always
liked the glitz and glamour of New York and feels that she would fit in
perfectly with New York’s elite. Furthermore, she loves fashion and New York is
the fashion capital of the world. With so many opportunities in America for
someone like her with money and good looks, the Big Apple attracts her. She
definitely wants to start her own business somewhere in the future and she thinks
that New York could be a great starting point.
While lying on
her bed, she decides that she will go to New York!
Firstly, she
needs a quick holiday before she ventures to the States. But most importantly,
she needs to let her family know and is a little sceptical of how they will
take the news. Especially her father, who loves his daughter very much, and
will miss her dearly when she’s gone thousands of miles away.
Finally, she
decides to get up from her daydream, get a shower and go meet the most
important man in her life.
Sierra’s nerves
eats away at her, the closer she gets to her father’s office.
Vincent Malcolm
is a man of tall build and slim frame. Unlike his wife and children, who like
to tan, Vincent is very white indeed with grey and blonde hair. His skin is
very pale as he is hardly ever in the sun, but he always looks sharp in his grey
suits – grey being his favourite colour.
Her father gets
up and walks towards her with arms opened wide and a big smile on his face at
the sight of his only daughter walking into his office. He’s elated to see his
daughter, and his eagerness to know what has been happening in her life is
clear to see.
“My darling
daughter, how’s daddy’s favourite little girl doing this beautiful Friday
afternoon?” he asks.
“Aww, Daddy, I’m
fine, I’ve missed you so much,” she replies, with a kiss to his cheeks, before
taking a seat.
They engage in
conversations about her graduation and how well her older brothers are doing
financially. However, Sierra is uneasy around the old man. She knows that he is
always able to read his children and she sees that he senses something worrying
her. He was always good at reading her expressions and he tries his best to
understand her most out of all his three children.
She is worried
at the revelation she is about to make to her father. He asks her about the
problem that bothers her. But before she can tell him, she has to sweet talk
him and tell him how he is the best father in the world, so on and so forth. The
old man laughs at his daughter’s childish ways and urges her to speak her mind.
“Come on,
darling, tell me what bothers you.”
Sierra finally
summons up the courage to tell her father the truth about her plans to move to
New York to try to build her own fortune rather than always being dependent on
her parents. She tells her father she loves him and her mother and older
brothers dearly, but she feels that there is a wider world out there for her to
explore and she feels such a place is New York City.
Sierra sees that her father is clearly saddened by her
decision, but he must realise that Sierra is just like him. She knows that her
determination to get what she wants in life, her drive and willpower to achieve
the goals she sets for herself is extremely admirable to the old man.
Just as she had known, he applauds her drive
