ended up in a fight with her sister over Gavin.
Demi still seemed to have feelings for him, and Acasia was afraid
that her sister had been made even more vulnerable with her
pregnancy. She was excited to be an aunt again, but more than a
little worried about her sister.
She felt like she could talk to Garett
about anything, and mentioned to him that her sister wasn’t sure
how she felt about the man she was having a child with. She was a
little afraid that he would mention something to Gavin since he had
mentioned that he did talk to his brother now and again, afraid
that Gavin was going to end up chasing Demi again, at a time when
she least needed a man like him in her life. But Acasia decided to
leave it alone. Her sister was a grown woman anyway, and had proven
that she could take care of herself.
She had her own apartment in a nice
neighborhood, even if it was tiny. She had planned well and had had
a job waiting for her when she’d moved. She was actually making
more money than Acasia was at the moment. Demi had a lot to be
proud of, and Acasia had seen a strength emerge in her sister
lately that she’d never realized was there before. Demi was
prepared to raise her baby by herself, unwilling to settle for
marrying a man that she didn’t love. She knew that it was time to
let her sister live her own life, make her own mistakes.
And it was time for Acasia to enjoy
Garett. She just hoped that their second date went as well as the
first had.
Garett
When Acasia told him that Demi was
pregnant, he wondered why he hadn’t already heard the news from his
mother. She had known of course, but he supposed she hadn’t chosen
to share the news since Demi’s baby wouldn’t be her grandchild. She
certainly hadn’t been shy when it had come to announcing Nikki’s
pregnancy.
Acasia had confessed that she’d been so
distracted by her thoughts of him that it had taken her days to
share the news. A smile had broken out over his face then. It was
amazing to think that she wanted him as much as he wanted
her.
He called Gavin as soon as he got off
of the phone with Acasia, warning his brother that it was high time
he told Demi how he felt. Gavin was concerned about how she felt
about the father of her child, but Acasia had told him that Demi
had no plans of marrying the man, was unsure that she even loved
him, and he assured Gavin that he still had a chance with her. But
his brother’s chance with Demi was going to slip away if he didn’t
get his ass in gear, and he told him so, reminding Gav that he had
been the one who had so recently called the Brown sisters
unforgettable when he had been trying to convince Garett to take a
chance and ask Acasia out.
He had a feeling Gavin would get to the
point where he would no longer be able to ignore his feelings for
Demi and would be forced to confess them to her. Then again, Gavin
had lived with his love hidden for years, giving up on a woman he’d
felt was too good for him, much as Garett had denied his feelings
for Acasia.
But Garett knew from personal
experience that hiding your feelings didn’t make them go away, and
he still had hopes that Gavin would find the happiness with Demi
that he had found with Acasia.
Acasia
There was an air of expectation when
Garett picked her up for their date that night. It had been two
weeks since their first date, and though Acasia felt more than a
little silly for keeping track of the days in her head, she was
unable to hide her excitement. She was just so happy to be with
Garett. She felt like she was walking on air, and even her mother
had commented that she was positively glowing.
He was cooking her dinner. His kitchen
was mostly finished, and he had made some good progress on the
house, but when he teased her about moving in with him, she had
laughed, telling him that he had a lot of work to do on the place
before she would ever consider moving in with him.
He was a good cook, much better at it
than she was actually. She
