favorite lingerie store to buy something sexy. Nathan had wanted her to spice it up initially, and she wanted to keep him happy. She envisioned him walking through the door, where she’d greet him with a kiss. She’d tell him about his surprise as she gave him a seductive striptease, revealing the sexy lingerie underneath her clothes, and work her way up to the blindfold before revealing a tempting naked Rafe for them to play with. So when she heard the door open, she started to dance for him and seductively swayed her hips to the music playing in the background. Only things hadn’t gone exactly as planned: the moment she began to unbutton her blouse, she was shocked to see the disinterest in his eyes.
He wasn’t alone.
The sight of his unexpected company made her stop in her tracks. “Nathan?” Heidi took a step towards him. “What’s wrong?” she asked. Although concerned, she was mostly trying to conceal the hurt she’d felt by his look of rejection towards her. She hoped he had the same plans she did with the company he brought home. She could see herself having fun with a woman too, if that would make him happy. She was pretty much game for anything. He was in a bad mood, that was for sure, and it seemed to be directed towards her. What the fuck?
“Wrong?” he repeated. “My boss is a fucking asshole from hell. He passed me by again and gave the promotion I wanted to fucking Clemens, so yeah, I’m in a bad mood.” He pointed to the busty blonde beside him. “So, you remember Missy, right? I ran into her today, and I thought she’d be able to help me relieve some of this stress.” He arched a brow, daring her to say something about it.
Heidi rolled her eyes and extended a hand to Missy. There was no way in hell she was going to be the bitch Nathan expected her to be. He was being deliberately hurtful, and yes, it pissed her off and made her feel like garbage because of the way he spoke to her, but she’d also be damned if she was going to let him see how jealous she felt right then. “Hello, Missy.”
Her lack of reaction seemed to piss him off. “I’m starting to think maybe we should cool it for a while.” He walked by her to enter his room, leaving her there in shock, only to walk right back out again to ask, “What’s Rafe doing tied to my bed?”
And she finally lost it, because there was no way she’d allow him to treat her this way without getting the final word in. He wanted to be a douchebag—well, she’d damn well let him know that he was.
“You know what? Fuck you, Nathan Anthony De Costa. You’re such an asshole. I worked my ass off to try and please you, and what do I get but a big ‘fuck you’ in return.” She laughed humorlessly. “Rafe is in there as a part of my surprise you’ve just ruined, so go and enjoy. I’m tired of loving you and not getting what I need in return. I hope one day I make you eat your words, because despite the company and the constant sex, it’s a pretty lonely life you lead without the emotion. And when you do finally realize you missed out on a great thing, I just hope it’s not too late, because right now, I’m done.”
“Wait a minute! I love you!” He sounded shocked by her outburst—and his own.
Her heart cracked a little more with longing. She looked between Missy and Nathan after that confession, and Missy suddenly looked extremely uncomfortable, if not a little mad. “Yes, I guess you do in your own way, but differently from what I’m talking about.”
Nathan looked away while Heidi couldn’t contain her hurt feelings anymore, allowing her tears to fall. Stupid, stupid, stupid!
His hands fisted at his sides when he spoke again. “You promised things wouldn’t change for us, Heidi. Don’t fucking back out on your word now.”
“Yeah, well, you were the one who started this, and I guess I lied.” She backed away towards the door. She had to leave to cool down. She couldn’t stand to let him see her hurt anymore.
