food.   And before they knew it, they were building a nest together in a sturdy box up against a tree. Never leaving the other or straying too far away. Because bluebirds mate for life.”

The story my mom told me reminds me of Ella.  It’s the reason why I call her Bluebird.

Before long, we are all ready to escape the everyday life of school and practice.  Thank god for spring break!  Baseball season is in full swing, and we're going to State.  Yeah!  That's right, we're that good!   But right now, it's time for a hiatus from the craziness of life.  Our posse is heading to the beach for the week.  Conner's parents own a house on the Gulf, and for the next week, it's fishing, beer, and relaxing with my friends.
On my way out of town, I stop by to see Ella.  She’s getting ready for work.  She has so many responsibilities and obligations; thinking about it creates a huge lump in my throat.  I do too, but mine involves controlling all things Grayson.  Not like Ella, trying to make ends meet.
Opening the door, Ella greets me with her brilliant smile.  “Hey, Grayson!  Let’s talk outside.  My mom’s taking a nap and I don’t want to wake her up,” she mutters, pushing me through the door and closing it softly.
    “You working all week, Bluebird?”
She sighs, “Yes.  Mr. Cain has me on the schedule every day with school being out.  It’s good though, we really need the money.”
“Well, shit!  I wanted to see if you could come to the beach with me.  Conner’s family has a house down there and we’re going to do some fishing and other stuff.”
I’m struck by how dumb that sounds once the words leave my mouth.  This girl is working to help her family.  Ella doesn't need me to add to her hardships.  I rethink and start over.
“Sorry, I just want to spend a little more time with you, is all.  I understand duty.”
I gaze into her pools of blue, while my hands seize her waist, pulling her in for a hug.  Her smell intoxicates me, sending ripples of desire over my shoulders, down my spine straight to my groin.  Fuck, I want this girl.
Ella looks into my eyes, and I see something sparkle, desire. Leaning in, I sneak a peck on her neck, moving up to her ear, leaving soft wet kisses in my wake.  Ella stiffens, and I hear her breath catch.  I play a little more with her neck and feel her relaxing in my hold.  Moving to the corners of her lips, I watch her reaction: flushed cheeks and parted mouth.  Dragging my teeth across her bottom lip, slowly, methodically pouring the attraction, I feel for Ella into my every touch, finally capturing her lips with mine as I impart my need for her.
Breathlessly, she jerks away and our moment has passed.  “That was ... it was ... what was that for, Grayson?”  Ella is flustered and I like it.
Drawing Ella’s hands into mine, I bring them to my mouth, kissing each knuckle carefully while keeping my eyes on hers.
“I’ll miss you this week, Bluebird.”
Leaving her on the porch at her house is hard for me.  It’s going to be rough not seeing her for the week, and my body aches to claim her.  Surprise doesn’t even cut the reception she gave me.  Baby steps.  She allowed me to kiss her again, and it was overwhelming.   Timing is everything.  She’ll be mine soon enough.   I head out down to the beach to go chill with the guys.
Pulling up to Conner's beach house, I notice there are a lot more cars than I expected.  I guess the party started without me.  As I put my truck in park and glance at the cottage, Conner comes around the corner to greet me.
“Are you ready to par-tay?” he asks in a sing-song voice that cracks me the hell up!  “Come on, Grayson.  Let’s do this!” Conner grabs the front of my 4X4, hopping up onto the bumper, jumping up and down like a madman. “Welcome to the par-tay!”  He’s not right.
I shake my head at my insane friend.  I take a deep breath and grab my bag as
