and forced into slavery. She couldn't believe she’d actually got away from Seria.
Anara shook her head. Getting her hopes up wasn't something she needed to do. They'd come after her and she needed to plan on how she'd stay a few steps ahead of them until she found her family.
Before she knew it, the sky darkened and forced her to search for shelter. She came across a large tree with a hollow opening and settled in for the night. She laid her head on her bag and closed her eyes.
Sleep came welcomed until she awoke with sweat beaded on her forehead. Her much-needed sleep would have to wait, because she sensed the Jatron had found her. And she had a dreadful feeling he wasn't going to stay a few steps behind her. There was more to this Serian and she just couldn't quite figure out what.
Chapter Seven
Ryder gripped the armrest as the safety strap around his waist and over his shoulders tightened, and nearly took his breath. The ship shuttered uncontrollably as they broke through the Earth's atmosphere. A hint of a coppery taste hit his taste buds after biting down on his tongue. He always managed to do it; he needed to wear a mouth guard when he traveled.
Once they neared the Earth's surface, the ship stea died. Ryder still couldn't stop the vibration that ran down his body. He seriously hated to fly.
"The ship she took is a half-mile away," his pilot said.
Ryder nodded. "Let's go and you can take the others back in the hijacked ship, if they're still alive. I'll go back on my own after I capture her."
Not that he really knew what he was going to do with her. With their strange connection he was sure he wouldn't be able to take her back to his father. Ryder departed the ship, taking in the fresh air of Earth, and then trudged through the forest as the pilot lagged behind.
At the other landing sight, two pilots groaned with hands on their heads as they sat on the ground. Wow. The female had taken down four Antikas, and two pilots. He still couldn't believe the footage he saw, but there he stood in front of the groggy pilots. He'd even seen first hand the night she was attacked at her home. Of course he didn't know she was a half-breed at that time.
"That half-breed almost got us killed."
Ryder listened to the older pilot, who he couldn't stand. "What happened on Cryok?"
"She shot us with maccas, so all I know is that we woke up here with two Cryoks standing in front of us. They're gone now." The younger pilot spoke as the older one just grunted.
"Which way did they go?" Ryder needed to find the girl but he didn't know what kind of weapons the Cryoks would have.
"They went poof. Just disappeared into thin air," the older pilot said with wide eyes.
Poof? "And the girl?"
They both looked at each other, before the older pilot spoke. "I don't know, we woke up alone. Maybe she's still on Cryok."
"Shit. They played us." Ryder never checked for her on the ship, not after the crazy reaction he had the first time. He took a deep breath and went for it anyways.
He found her and as soon as their energies collided, he jerked away. After he caught his breath and hid his erection, Ryder spoke to the three pilots. "She's across the world."
They had followed the ship to Australia as she made her way to America. Ryder shoved his hand through his hair. How did he feel her at that distance? "I will take the other ship. Go ahead and take them back to Seria on this one."
"What about backup? The Cryoks aren't going to go down without a fight," his pilot said as he helped the others to their feet.
Ryder knew better. "They aren't with her. The Cr yoks don't want a war with us, just as much as we don't want one with them. I'll go after the girl and bring her back."
"Yes, sir." The pilots boarded the stolen ship and departed.
Ryder headed back to his ship, so he could find the half-breed who caused him grief and the erection that just didn't want to disappear.
