red carpet event.
On the carpet, Peter could barely muster a smile, but Sandy was all pearly whites and well-rehearsed posing (right down to the classic one-hand-on-the-hip “triangle”-shaped modeling pose).
When it came time then to do interviews, she grabbed Peter’s hand and hightailed it to the press line. She was outgoing, funny, a goofball, her mouth going a mile a minute. Everything Peter was not. But he liked letting someone else have control for a change. It took the pressure off.
Sandy loved to talk about herself. Peter, however, was shy, slow to get to know, and was known in journalism circles as “a bad interview”—lots of one-word answers, a fair amount of mumbling, and a reluctance to share too much information about his personal life. “I like to keep that for my music,” he explained every time a reporter asked a question that was too personal . . . “Are you in love?” . . . “Will you guys get married?” . . . “Where was your first kiss?” Pure torture. As much as Peter loved being a singer, he hated being a celebrity.
Right after their red carpet debut, an influential blogger called him “moody,” and almost immediately Retro Records hired a so-called “media trainer” to teach him how to be more so-called “media friendly.” When the trainer told Peter he had to start by smiling more, Peter told him he didn’t want a job that made him pretend to be happy when he wasn’t. The label backed off.
Even though Peter was not always a Happy Harry, he was a whole lot sunnier than before he met Sandy. Many fans saw things differently. They were divided between “Team Pandy” and the hate-a-holics who just couldn’t stand the girl group star.
Take, for example, this comments-section debate beneath an OMC blog posting about Sandy and Peter hanging out at the beach:

She needs to stop being a user bitch. She thinks she’s so hot in that bikini. Seriously.

All haters need to chill. Sandy makes Peter happy.
That’s all that matters. Every1 CHILL!
But from the moment Sandy walked onto the TV show set, she brought Peter out of his funk. After the table reading of the script for the G Girls’ episode of his show (in which the girl group plays his high school prom and Peter’s character falls in love with her), Sandy came up to Peter and playfully said, “Hey, mister. You didn’t smile once the whole time.”
â€œThat’s because the script is kinda lame.”
    â€œYou know what you need?”
    â€œBetter writers?”
â€œNo, silly,” she replied with a punch to his upper arm. “A trip to Baker’s Bread! They’ve got the best mac and cheese. Let’s go.”
She made him laugh and was extremely cute, and at the end of his staccato chuckle, he realized it was the first time he had genuinely laughed in weeks. They drove together to North Hollywood to Baker’s for lunch, their first date, and hadn’t stopped dating since. They were, so far, an “everything but” couple. Sandy had been pushing for sex, but Peter wanted to wait. “You’re probably the first guy in the history of guys whose girlfriend wants to have sex and you don’t,” Sandy pestered him.
It’s not like Peter didn’t want to have sex. He just wasn’t sure if he really wanted to do it with Sandy, wasn’t sure if he was in love with her. He had made that mistake with his last girlfriend—and when they had broken up, it had only made things harder.
It had taken him almost a year to figure out his confused feelings about his girlfriend. Yet, since paparazzi followed him practically
