heliport.”
“The heliport? We’re going to travel again?”
“It’s not far from here, don’t worry. We’ll be there in about ten minutes.”
Jennifer got in the luxurious sedan and crossed her legs. She could even extend them if she wanted to and felt small in the massive car. She had taken a shower in the plane and changed clothes. The flight attendant had given her a simple white dress and Jennifer wasn’t surprise to find out that it was exactly her size; another delicate attention from Bruce.
The ride from the airport was very short indeed. Jennifer could already see the heliport where only one helicopter was stationed. The car circled around it and finally eased to a stop. The driver opened the door and Jennifer squinted. She was facing the Mediterranean Sea and was blinded by the reflection of the sun on the water. There was nobody except the pilot. Damn it, she thought. Was Bruce going to play with her again?
“I don’t see Mr. Wilson,” she told the driver.
He smiled and extended his arm, pointing at the helicopter with his finger. “He’s here, like I told you.”
“I only see the pilot.”
“Well, that’s him.”
Jennifer was speechless. Bruce knew how to pilot a helicopter? She ran to make sure this wasn’t a joke. The pilot was wearing sunglasses and a three-day beard. At first, she wasn’t sure whether it was Bruce or not but when he turned to look at her and smiled, she recognized him instantly. There was no doubt about it; it was Bruce. He jumped on the floor and opened his arms.
“Jen,” he said. “How are you, my love?”
“Baby,” she said as he took her in his strong arms. “I missed you so much. Why did you leave without me?”
“For this,” he said, jerking his thumb at the helicopter. “I needed to make sure they had one for us and they wanted to see my pilot certificate.”
“I didn’t know you could fly a chopper... Are you sure about it?”
“Yes.”
“Isn’t it safer to have an experienced pilot for us?”
“You don’t think I can handle it, do you?”
“I just want to make sure we arrive alive, wherever we’re going. Where are we going?”
“Relax, I can do it. I want to show you around. Come on, let’s go.”
They climbed in the helicopter and Bruce ran through a checklist. He seemed to know what he was doing and Jennifer felt slightly relieved. She put on her headset and heard Bruce.
“Do you hear me?” He said.
She looked at him and nodded. “Yes!” she screamed.
Bruce winced and shook his head. “No, you don’t need to scream. Just speak naturally.”
“Like this?” She said, significantly lowering her voice.
He flashed his thumb and punched a few button. The helicopter started to shake and Jennifer prayed that they would make it. They slowly took off and within seconds, they were above the ground, still hovering over the heliport. Bruce pushed what looked like a joystick and they moved forward. They flew over the sea and Bruce gave her a pair of sunglasses to protect her eyes. Jennifer felt nervous but the view was breathtaking. It felt completely different than a plane. She could feel everything; the wind, the vibration of the engine and the acceleration. It was amazing. She looked at him and rested her hand on his thigh.
“Thank you,” she said. “It’s beautiful.”
He smiled and took her hand. “I’m glad you like it.”
“I like it but I don’t understand why you needed to bring me here to do that. We could have done it back home.”
He shook his head. “I don’t think so. Look over there,” he said, pointing at a black dot on the horizon. “This is where I’m bringing you.”
“I can’t see it. What is it?”
“A yacht...”
Jennifer opened her eyes wide. She couldn’t believe it. “Are you kidding me? A yacht? A private yacht for us?”
“Just the two of us, except for the crew. But they know how to be discreet.”
“Oh my God... So this is your surprise?”
“Yeah. This is where we
