circus. âWhy did they attack now? They werenât stealing jewels. They went right for Scooby and Shaggyâ¦.â
âYou think they were trying to scare us off?â Fred asked.
But before anyone could answer, Shaggy and Scooby zipped by on the motorcycle. âHow do you, like, stop this thing?!â Shaggy cried as they sped into the wings.
Daphne winced as a loud crash echoed through the big top. The motorcycleâs motor came to a sudden stop. âThatâs one wayâ¦.â
T hat night, everyone slept in Mariusâs office, just in case the werewolf came back. They woke with a start the next morning when Marius hollered, âUnbelievable!â
Fred, Daphne, Shaggy, Scooby, and Velma all leaped up. Scooby jumped into Shaggyâs arms for protection. âWhatâs that?! Is it the werewolves?â
Marius was smiling broadly. âThere were critics in the audience last night!â He slapped down a pile of newspapers on this desk.
âCircus critics?â Velma asked.
Marius nodded. âThese are the most incredible reviews Iâve ever seen! They all assumed the werewolves were part of the show. And lookat this!â He pointed to the front page. Everyone crowded around him and saw Shaggy grinning back at them. Scooby was in the very bottom corner of the picture. âTheyâre calling Shaggy the greatest circus artist since Felix Adler!â
Scooby unwrapped his arms from Shaggyâs neck. âRhut?!â
Shaggyâs face reddened, and he couldnât stop smiling. âIâm so excited ⦠and I would be so much more excited if I had any idea who Felix Adler was!â
âThis is great, Shaggy,â Daphne said, patting him on the back.
âCongratulations!â Fred seconded.
Velma nodded. âWay to go!â
Scooby looked disappointed. âRhut rabout re?â
âWell,â Marius said, trying to come up with something. âListen to this: âThe performance young Shaggy Rogers gets from his trained dog, Scabby âââ
âRabby?!â Scooby barked.
ââ is so remarkable that one might almostbelieve the animal has a mind of its own!ââ Marius continued.
Scooby snatched the newspaper away from Marius. âRi do have a rind of ri own!â
âItâs true,â Daphne said. âHe does.â
Marius didnât really seem to care. âWell, this is fantastic news! Excuse me, I have to show these around.â He hurried out of his office to share the reviews with the other members of the circus.
âLooks like weâre a hit, huh?â Shaggy said, beaming at Scooby.
ââRabby â¦ââ Scooby moaned.
As Shaggy reveled in his newfound fame, Archambault burst into Mariusâs trailer. âYou have heard? The newsies are loving the show! We sell many tickets now, oui ?â He looked around on the shelves, searching for something. âYou all be sure to come to breakfast today, okay? Archambault is going to make his famous crêpes!â He held up a key. âAha! Kitchen trailer key. Breakfast be ready soon.â
As Archambault backed away from the shelf, he knocked a book to the floor. It landed at Velmaâs feet.
âWhatâ¦?â she asked, picking it up. It looked very old. âThis is a book about the Ingolstadt werewolves!â she cried.
Archambault and the others stared at her.
âBut I thought Marius had never heard of them!â Daphne said, peering over Velmaâs shoulder.
âThatâs what he said â¦.â Fred mused.
Shaggy rubbed his chin scruff. âLike, maybe he just bought that book yesterday?â
Velma continued to look through the old book. âIt was printed in Estonia in eighteen fifty-three. You really think Marius could have found this in just a day?â
âWhat are you saying?â Archambault asked. âThat Marius is werewolf?â
Fred didnât look
